Three UAB students with ties to the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) were awarded prestigious two-year fellowships from the American Heart Association in 2023.

Johane Bracamonte, Ph.D., a postdoctoral researcher in BME, received a postdoctoral fellowship for his research in the lab of School of Engineering Dean Jeff Holmes, M.D., Ph.D.

Jiacheng “Jason” Sun, M.D., a BME Ph.D. student working in the lab of department Chair Jianyi “Jay” Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., received a pre-doctoral fellowship to support his research into myocardial regeneration.

A third student, Meimei Wang, a biomedical sciences Ph.D. student working in the lab of BME Assistant Professor Yang Zhou, Ph.D., received a predoctoral fellowship for her research into direct cardiac reprogramming.
