Jianyi “Jay” Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the UAB Department of Biomedical Engineering, travelled to Japan and Taiwan in March to deliver lectures.
Zhang attended a joint symposium of the American Heart Association and Japanese Circulation Society in Kobe, Japan, March 8-10, and co-chaired a session Friday, March 8, on, "Current Status and Challenges of iPS Cell Application to Cardiovascular Diseases."
On March 12, Zhang presented the keynote presentation, "modRNA therapeutics cs. hiPSC-derived cell and cell products for myocardial repair in large mammals: Remuscularization of injured ventricle" at the First International Meeting of Taiwan Circulation Research Society in Taipei, Taiwan. Yajing Wang, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Director of Basic and Translational Research, was also in attendance and presented the lecture, titled, “Adiponectin and diaetic cardiomyopathy.”
Zhang presented a lecture on March 15 at the Gene Pharmacology and Drug Development: From Basic Research to Clinical Application Symposium at the Kaohsiung Medical University School of Medicine’s Institute of Medicine in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Zhang’s trip ended with attendance at a meeting at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica, in Taipei, Taiwan.
