How to Complete an Online Application
- Complete the online graduate application through the UAB Graduate School online admission system.
- Admissions Process Overview
- Click on the APPLY NOW tab to start the application process. The application will ask you to choose your degree program.
- For which of the following are you applying? Masters (NOT MSEM)
- What is your intended program of study? Master of Engineering (MEng)
- Format: Online
- What is your concentration? Information Engineering Management
- Term: Semester and year
- The online application will guide you through the process, and we will give you updates on the status of your application along the way.
- We follow the UAB Academic Calendar. The academic calendar year configuration is the calendar year of September + the calendar year of January (i.e. 2024-2025 for fall (September) semester 2024 and spring (January) and summer (May) semesters 2025.)
- Three recommendations required.
- Preferably, letters from a colleague or supervisor.
- Enter the name and email address of recommenders in your application.
- Notification emails are automatically sent to the identified recommenders advising how to submit their recommendation.
- Download essay questions and upload them (along with your answers) as an attachment in your online application.
- Submit your resume/CV as an attachment in your online application.
- Submit transcripts for all post-secondary institutions, including community colleges, high school dual-enrollment, and military credit.
- Unofficial transcripts may be utilized for the application review process.
- Transcripts forwarded from a student’s email account are not official.
- If admitted, by the middle of your first semester in IEM, the UAB Graduate School must receive an official transcript. Official transcripts are only needed from these institutions:
- Each post-secondary institution where you earned a degree, and
- For any coursework taken after the awarding of your bachelor’s degree (e.g. as a post-bacc, or graduate student).
- Official transcripts must come directly from the institution to UAB.
- Transcripts are considered unofficial unless they are issued in one of the following ways:
- Electronic transcripts emailed directly from your school’s Registrar’s Office, to the UAB Graduate School (

- Paper transcripts submitted by the student in a sealed envelope bearing a University signature or stamp across the seal.
- USPS mail transcripts to: UAB Graduate School LHL G03 1720 2nd Avenue South Birmingham, AL 35294-0013
- Pay your non-refundable application fee (credit and debit cards are acceptable payment methods).

Admission Requirements
- An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Undergraduate degree does not have to be in engineering
- No minimum GPA required
- No GMAT/GRE required
- Relevant industry work experience

International Applicants
- International applicants must provide documentation showing they have earned the equivalent of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from the United States to be eligible for admission consideration. To learn more about this requirement, visit the International Applicants section of the UAB Graduate School website and select the tab ‘Translated Transcripts and Proof of Degree.’
- International students from non-English speaking countries are required to submit English proficiency scores (TOEFL/IELTS/PTEA) that meet the Graduate School minimum score requirements. Go to: www.uab.edu/gradadmissions/apply/international-applicants for details.
