Innovation in Wellness Awards

The Innovations in Wellness awards offer a unique opportunity to encourage and recognize students, registered dietitians and professionals in the community who have demonstrated innovative approaches to supporting the promotion of healthy environments within Alabama. Please review the application criteria below and consider nominating a student, peer or colleague who is an advocate for health and wellness.

  • To encourage and recognize students (medical, dietetic, pharmacy, health professions, public health, dental, etc.), registered dietitians and professionals in the community who have demonstrated innovative approaches to supporting the promotion of healthy environments within Alabama. The selection committee will review all nominations and determine the award winners. Top three finalists within each category will be notified and one winner will be selected per award. Please consider nominating a student, peer, or colleague who is an advocate for health and wellness.

    All awardees will be recognized at the 2019 Wellness Conference on November 15, 2019 at the Birmingham Hilton. Winners will be featured as a live guest on Alabama Public Television and receive complimentary registration to the 2020 Innovations in Wellness Conference.

  • Student/Intern Award
    Emerging Leader in Health & Wellness

    Please consider nominating a student who has contributed significantly to the community and demonstrated outstanding leadership and advocacy skills in health promotion and wellness. The following list includes criteria for outstanding student leader nominees:

    • Must be a student in the state of Alabama and enrolled in a health-related professional program (medical school, pharmacy school, school of public health, school of health professions, dietetic internship, majoring in nutrition science, etc.)
    • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale in major courses of study
    • Must demonstrate a commitment to promoting health and wellness within the community and/or on campus
    • Must show active involvement and participation in student organizations, health advocacy and volunteering opportunities
    • Must demonstrate leadership, character and integrity in academic organization

    Professional Leadership Award
    Driving Healthy Change Through Innovation

    This award honors a professional who actively serves and has demonstrated significant contributions to the health and wellness of the community. The following list includes criteria for nominees:

    • Must be involved in community organizations or volunteer groups related to health promotion
    • Must encourage program development and advocacy for health within the state of Alabama
    • Must provide professional knowledge and support the development of health within their professional environment and community

    SUBMISSION DEADLINE: All applications and supporting documents should be submitted by November 1, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. The top three finalists will be notified by November 6 and will be invited to share supporting documentation* at that time.

    *Additional supporting documentation (i.e. letters of recommendation, PowerPoint including photos and live links for supporting documentation for events, information on projects or programs that the individual has been integrally involved with) are not required for the first phase of the award selection process. The top three finalists from each category chosen to move into the second phase will be notified on November 6 and invited to submit supporting documentation at that time.
