Who is eligible to participate?
Wellscreens are for all UAB, UAB Hospital, UAB LLC, UAB Health System, UA Health Services Foundation and Cooper Green employees who are benefit-eligible.

Can I participate in an onsite Wellscreen appointment during work hours?
Yes, employees can participate in screenings during work hours, still subject to manager approval.

Can I eat or drink anything before the screening (and be fasting)?
Yes, but you are encouraged to fast to improve the accuracy of the results.

What metrics are included in the onsite health screening?
Your Wellscreen visit will measure blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI, triglycerides and cholesterol/HDL ratio.

How is my confidentiality protected?
You may have some concerns about the confidentiality about your personal information. In compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), your personal information from a Wellscreen will NOT be shared on an individual level with your employer. UAB will receive aggregate information (without names) in order to design future wellness initiatives. View the Notice of Privacy Practices.

How does a Wellscreen appointment benefit me?
Knowing your personal numbers matters. Health screenings can identify unknown conditions, diseases, or risks for disease that can significantly influence the quality of one’s life for the future. A simple drop of blood can provide clues about how to improve one’s health and wellbeing. This is part of UAB’s ongoing commitment to support each employee’s health and wellbeing.

Who will have access to my personal data?
UAB Live HealthSmart Alabama will privately and securely share your Wellscreen data to ICario/Chip Rewards, who will upload your information on your confidential My Health Rewards profile. UAB Live HealthSmart Alabama and ICario/Chip Rewards protect all screening data through secure processes and protocols to ensure confidentiality.

What other option do I have if I am unable to make a Wellscreen appointment during the campaign?
If you are unable to attend one of the screening events, you have the option to have the appropriate measures taken by your healthcare provider using the Wellscreens Physician Fax Form. A Physician Fax Form must be completed by your health care provider and faxed to UAB Live HealthSmart Alabama (205-996-2974) by November 30, 2023, to receive the credit in your My Health Rewards account (if applicable). No exceptions. Please confirm with your physician that your visit is a preventive exam visit to ensure that it is recorded (“coded”) appropriately.

How can I qualify for a reasonable alternative?
Participants who cannot meet the standards outlined by the Wellscreen program for medical reasons may qualify for a reasonable alternative and may still have an opportunity to qualify for the reward. Please contact UAB Employee Wellness at uabwellness@uab.edu to request a reasonable alternative.
