Adobe Firefly, which offers a suite of generative AI tools within a Creative Cloud subscription, is now approved for use at UAB.
Firefly can be used for imagery and creating concepts based on an array of inputs. The software can modify images with generative fill, use a text-to-image prompt for creating different varieties of art, and even add text effects for an impactful visual aid. Keep in mind that any use of AI tools at UAB must follow the University’s AI principles.
Students have free access to Adobe Creative Cloud, with a limited number of licenses available for faculty and staff. Visit UAB’s Adobe website to learn how to request access to the Adobe CC.
Why should you use Adobe Firefly versus other generative AI?
- Adobe Firefly pulls from Adobe Stock images, along with public domain materials and any open sources.
- Content Credentials may be applied to some creations from Firefly. This helps understand what AI tools were used, and if any were used to edit or create the piece.
Due to the computational power required to generate items, Adobe users are allocated a set number of monthly “generative credits.” These credits allow users to create features with Firefly and use other Adobe applications with AI built into them. Consumption rate of credits depends on the platform and application they are used in. You can learn more about credit renewal on Adobe’s website and can check your credit count by clicking the account logo on the upper righthand side of your Adobe account page.
Any items created through Adobe Firefly, or other approved AI software, should be used for ideation purposes. AI systems used at UAB should place humans at the center of deployment; you are accountable for the input and output. Find the official UAB AI guidelines here.
