Tekuila Carter, M.D.
Program Director and Associate Professor
Dr. Carter is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the residency. However, her primary responsibility is for resident recruitment, clinical curriculum, scheduling, and oversight.
Susan Black, M.D.
Vice Chair for Education and Professor
Dr. Black serves as the vice chair for education and is involved in medical student, residency and fellowship education.
Matt Broyles, M.D.
Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor
Dr. Broyles is responsible for resident recruitment activities, coordination of resident wellness events and social functions, and leads program evaluation and continual improvement of the resident work environment
Blake Norman, M.D., CMQ
Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor
Dr. Norman is Director of our Continuous Quality Improvement conference and serves as Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee. He is also responsible for resident schedules, case logs, and performance evaluations.
Paul Piennette, M.D.
Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor
Dr. Piennette is responsible for Clinical Base year rotation schedules and curriculum, as well as medical student clinical rotations for third and fourth year UAB and visiting medical students. He is also a member of the Admissions Committee of the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
Stacy Wade, M.D.
Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor
Dr. Wade is responsible for our didactic curriculum, including Monday afternoon Anesthesiology Grand Rounds, morning clinical conferences, mock oral exams, and senior academic projects. She also manages our academic support program.
Lee Ann Riesenberg, Ph.D., R.N., CMQ
Associate Director of Education and Professor
Dr. Riesenberg is responsible for accreditation support, medical education and quality and patient safety research support, medical education staff development, and curriculum, evaluation, and milestone initiatives.
Harold Goss, EdD, MLS
Assistant Director of Education
Dr. Goss is responsible for managing the anesthesia library and providing support for enhanced digital curriculum resources and education special projects.
James Hunter, M.D.
Simulation Program Director and Associate Professor
Dr. Hunter is responsible for leading simulation activities, including procedural and immersive simulations provided multiple times each year for all residents. Ultrasound trainers are used throughout residency to further develop skills, and OSCE preparatory simulations are provided to CA1-CA3 residents.
Andrea Hammett, RN
Simulation Program Associate Director
Andrea Hammett is responsible, along with Dr. James Hunter, for our simulation curriculum, including high-fidelity simulation, OSCE, and iTeachU curriculum development and delivery.
