#WhyIChoseUAB: For me, UAB was a big and pleasant surprise. I was blown away after my interview by the kindness and collegiality of everyone I interacted with and knew me and my family would be well taken care of during my years of training.

Favorite part of the program/UAB or something you love about it: We serve such an incredibly diverse patient population with a wide variety and severity of clinical pathology, and UAB is very well equipped for any of it.
Favorite rotation and why: Current intern here, so PMB is the no-brainer choice!

Best places for soaking up the local culture: We have loved visiting historical monuments and museums and the brand new City Walk Downtown.
Favorite places to take guests: The Gulf Coast is a short, half-days drive from our home. It has already been our go-to for long vacations and weekend getaways.

Best park, trail, or golf course/Where I take in the scenic views: Oak Mountain State Park, Red Mountain Park, Moss Rock, and Tannehill State Park
Why I like Birmingham: Birmingham offers so much. It is small enough to be navigatable and affordable, yet still offers just about everything our family needs.
What I wish someone had told me before I moved here: Birmingham really offers way more than anyone might think, be prepared to be pleasantly surprised!

#WhyIChoseUAB: I chose UAB due to the unparalleled clinical experience we obtain with a gradual (yet quick) level of autonomy. That sense of ownership in training coupled with the camaraderie amongst residents and attendings throughout the department was unlike anywhere else.
Fun Fact: The one (and only) time I received anesthesia was for a small outpatient procedure on my wrist and I had to go back to the ED the same day to get stitches in my face after I fell at home from still being drowsy after the anesthetic lol
Favorite part of UAB: Moonlighting opportunities (OR, ICU, Critical Care Transport) 💵💰
Favorite rotation and why: Highlands Regional - Team breakfast at the physician lounge is a staple
Favorite spots for a date night: Automatic for the seafood, Gianmarcos for Italian
Favorite places to take guests: Avondale Brewing - a great spot for drinking beer with an outdoor concert venue
Best park, trail, or golf course/Where I take in the scenic views: Oak Mountain is an > 900 acre park with scenic hiking, road/mountain biking, and swimming. Also, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has 2 impressive public golf courses residents routinely play together 🏌🏽⛳️
What I’ll miss the most about UAB/Birmingham: The food and the people

#WhyIChoseUAB: Through multiple rotations as medical student, it became apparent residents at UAB were not only excellent clinically but cared for each other deeply on a personal level. I knew this was the right environment for me to develop into the best possible physician and anesthesiologist that I can become.
Fun Fact: Played football the U.S. Air Force Academy. My wife is a PA-C with Lung Transplant at UAB. Amateur powerlifter.
Favorite part of the program/UAB or something you love about it: The family culture while pursuing excellence in all we do. No place will prepare you better professionally and personally to be an elite anesthesiologist like UAB will.
Favorite rotation and why: Surgical ICU. I think the acuity of patients pushes you as a clinician and there are many opportunities to do procedures even as an intern.
My neighborhood and why I like it: Crestwood North. Very close to many bars and restaurants in downtown Birmingham
Best places for soaking up the local culture: Any of the breweries in town on a weekend night. Some of my favorite are Ghost Train and Back 40.

Why I like Birmingham: Birmingham is an extremely diverse city with people from many different backgrounds, something you would not expect in the deep south. The city, especially UAB, seems like it is increasing its national profile and it is an exciting time to be a young professional living here.
What I wish someone had told me before I moved here: How great the restaurant scene is in Birmingham. There are many nationally renowned places to eat within the city and we are always getting more it seems like!

Favorite spots for a date night: There are a lot of restaurants and bars to chose from. I like going to Collin’s Bar, where you describe some flavors you want in a cocktail and they get creative.
Favorite places to take guests: On a nice day, Back Forty Brewing Company - good food, awesome outdoor area, & good beer.
Best things to do with family/kids: Also Back Forty Brewing Co.
Best park, trail, or golf course/Where I take in the scenic views: I live 5 min from Red Mountain and it has some nice, free trails.
Why I like Birmingham: Birmingham is great size city with everything you’d want to do, low traffic, solid hiking, low cost of living, great climate, close to other awesome cities, easy to fly in and out of. I could fill a page with reasons.
What I wish someone had told me before I moved here: I would end up having to buy an inflatable swimming pool because no one has pools here! I don’t get it. Small cost of moving from Florida I guess.
What I’ll miss the most about UAB/Birmingham: I’m going to miss my class a lot. We really did have an awesome group.
Plans for after graduation: Pain fellowship!
