Cervical Cancer and Sexually Transmitted Infections Screening Among Female Sex Workers in Cameroon

Project Setting: The project to screen 1000 female sex workers (FSWs) in Cameroon for cervical cancer and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is running in the Horizons Femmes Clinics, a large non – governmental organization that caters for FSWs in Cameroon.

Study Design: This is a cross-sectional design to screen  FSWs of ages 21 and above for cervical cancer using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and visual inspection with Lugol’s iodine (VILI) enhanced by digital cervicography, human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping for FSWs 30 years and above, STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, Trichomonas, and mycoplasma genitalium) to all the FSWs.

Potential Impact: The potential impact is to reduce the burden of STIs among FSWs, a highly vulnerable population with limited health access, and to prevent cervical cancer among them by identifying and treating precancerous lesions of the cervix.

Contact Infection: For more information, contact Dr. Simon Manga at email; smanga@uab.edu or smanga@cbchealthservices.org or telephone at +237-675-685-116 or +237-671-863-116.
