Postdoctoral Positions
Multiple postdoctoral fellow positions are open to study cystic fibrosis (CF) and other disorders of mucus clearance in a well-funded (NIH, CFF) and prestigious research laboratory focused on development of novel therapeutics.
Of particular interest is the modulation of CFTR for the treatment of CF and the role of ion transport in the regulation of mucus clearance in CF and other diseases where CFTR dysregulation plays a pathogenic role. Primary projects available include:
(1) The in vivo testing of novel gene therapy agents for the treatment of CF lung disease. The applicant will have opportunity to develop multiple projects using unique animal models.
(2) The screening and secondary characterization of novel agents that induce translational readthrough of premature termination codons in CFTR using electrophysiologic and other techniques, in vitro and in vivo.
(3) The development of an optical imaging technology (micro-optical coherence tomography) as a high-throughput screening device in cell culture and an in vivo tool for the evaluation of mucociliary clearance.
The successful candidate must be innovative and interested in pursuing an independent research effort upon successful completion of the fellowship. Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree required. The individual should have experience designing, interpreting, and performing experiments using physiologic measures of ion transport and/or imaging; management of animal models; and/or standard molecular biology techniques. Prior experience with animal models, high-throughput screening, and/or biomedical optics or engineering is highly valued. The position requires performing and designing experiments with minimal input from the mentor, writing manuscripts for publication and presentation, and a high level of self-motivation.
