Sloane Tanya DOM STAR The Department of Medicine is proud to recognize Elizabeth “Lisa” Forte, MBA, as the recipient of the 2025 Spring DOM STAR Award for Staff Excellence. Lisa is a clinical research administrative manager for the STI Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases. In her role, Lisa is responsible for creating budgets, strategizing grant submissions, and overall program organization. Her team praises her for her meticulous nature and consideration.

“Lisa ensures that everyone on the team is benefiting and getting the best possible outcome,” explained Dr. William Geisler, Director of the UAB STI Program.

She is also revered for her problem-solving skills. One colleague described how Lisa inherited a clinical trial deeply in the red. “Things looked dire,” the colleague detailed. Lisa took the study, conducted thorough research and analysis of the issues, assembled a team of internal advisors, reached out to sponsors, and produced a plan of action. Most of the issues were resolved within months. Lisa continues to refine and improve upon this accomplishment.

Lisa’s dedication doesn’t just stop at faculty and staff, trainees have also expressed their gratitude for her support. Her professionalism and kindness make even the most stressful situations feel manageable. Grad student Chloe Meewes recalled a time when she urgently needed to expedite travel pre-approval to attend a research conference, “Without hesitation, Lisa helped me reach out to everyone in the pre-approval workflow.” Thanks to Lisa’s efforts, the form was approved, and the needed visa application was secured within days.

Many nominators admire her ability to navigate and coordinate complex tasks. “She is the first to take the blame if something doesn’t go well, yet the last one to take credit for successes—if at all.”

Beyond her official duties, Lisa fosters a sense of community. Whether she’s blocking off time to troubleshoot a problem or simply being a supportive presence, her thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed. She is known for offering sweet treats, snacks, and taking music requests, as well as decorating the surrounding area for holidays and birthdays, creating a welcoming environment for her colleagues.

Even those outside her immediate team recognize her contributions. “I have not worked directly with Lisa, but my office is right in front of hers,” explained Dr. Daniela de Lima. “For the last four years, I have witnessed her working long hours to make sure everyone in the research program accomplishes their goals. She is always willing to help and goes above and beyond for the team.”

“Ultimately, she is invaluable and irreplaceable, a true gem that we were so fortunate to hire and will do everything in our power to keep,” concluded Dr. Will Geisler.

Thank you, Lisa, for your unwavering commitment to your team and your ability to build relationships that positively impact those around you. We are delighted to celebrate you as our DOM Spring 2025 STAR Awardee for Staff Excellence.
