Kelly Godby, MD, has been named Interim Director for the Division of Hematology and Oncology in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. As Interim Director, Godby will take the reigns from outgoing Division Director Ravi Bhatia, MD, who will continue to provide leadership of division research programs, serving as Interim Director for Research. Godby will work closely with Bhatia, Division Administrator Will Callans, DOM leaders, and leaders of the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and Cancer Service Line to provide stable, collaborative leadership while we complete the national search for a permanent Division Director.
Godby is Associate Professor of Medicine and the Inpatient Medical Director of Hematology and Oncology at UAB Hospital where she has spearheaded several projects that improved efficiency and enhanced both the patient and provider experiences. She is co-founder and co-director of the interdisciplinary Multiple Myeloma Clinic at UAB, the first clinic of its kind in Alabama dedicated solely to plasma cell malignancies. Additionally, Godby is Medical and Quality Office, Medical Director of Hematology and Oncology at Acton Road, and the Hematology and Oncology Advanced Practice Provider Manager.
A May 2015 graduate of the UAB Quality Academy, Godby has earned numerous awards for her exceptional care of cancer patients, as well as the 2016 Unsung Hero Award for the Division of Hematology and Oncology. She obtained her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in 2005 and completed residency and fellowship here at UAB. Godby joined our faculty as Assistant Professor in 2011; she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018.
Her appointment is effective October 1.
