Cindy Joiner, PhD, MPH, RN, Assistant Professor of Medicine, will step into a new role as Vice Chair, Department of Medicine, effective April 5, 2021.

In her current role as DOM Associate Vice Chair, Cindy built the DOM Clinical Research Enterprise—our successful shared services approach to research administration—from the ground up, and currently directs its operation. She manages the massive space relocation effort in conjunction with the School’s construction of the new Altec Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building, and she oversees department-wide protocols that keep our research teams operating safely during COVID.

This new role will build on her exceptional track record for administrative leadership, expanding her scope of responsibilities for policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives in the Department. She will work directly with me and other DOM senior leaders in these efforts.

Cindy’s expertise and talent will enhance all we do in the Department to advance our mission in collaboration with partners across the School and UAB Medicine.
