Estrada President-Elect of SGIM

Carlos Estrada, M.D., MS, (Professor, GIM) will serve as the president-elect of the Society of General Internal Medicine to support members and assure the organization continues to serve as an effective voice for academic general internists. Estrada will serve a three-year term.

Bhatt Studies the Use of Dupilumab for COPD in NEJM

Surya Bhatt, M.D., (Professor, PACCM) finds that administering dupilumab to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and type 2 inflammation may lead to fewer exacerbations, improved lung function, and less severe respiratory symptoms. The FDA is set to review findings for approval of this biologic agent in June.

Buford and Colleagues Land the Cover of Nature

Thomas Buford, Ph.D., (Professor, GGPC) and colleagues were featured on the cover of Nature for their published findings on the body's molecular response to endurance and resistance exercise. The multi-site study aims to provide a better understanding of how physical activity improves health and prevents disease.
