Lisa Willett, MD (Director, Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program) faculty winner of the 2016 Leonard Tow Award for Humanism in Medicine, delivered the keynote address at this year’s White Coat Ceremony. “With this sacred piece of clothing on your back, you will do extraordinary things…You will cure, treat, listen, and above all, you will comfort. This is the power of the white coat, and it’s a privilege that you should always cherish.”
Senior author Sumanth Prabhu, MD (Director, Cardiovascular Disease) and six other researchers in the division have been recognized by F1000Prime, a review panel of the world’s leading scientists and clinicians. Their work, “Activated T Lymphocytes are Essential Drivers of Pathological Remodeling in Ischemic Heart Failure” was originally published in Circulation Heart Failure in March.
Rachelle Hall has been selected as Director of Finance for the Department. She will lead the DOM finance team, working closely with DOM Executive Administrator Jason Daniel to support our divisions in promoting fiscal sustainability. Rachelle joined UAB in 2002, and she has most recently served as administrator for two DOM Divisions: Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, and Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Nathan Erdmann, MD, PhD (Instructor, Infectious Diseases) has earned a KO8 Award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for his project “Viral Adaptation to CD4 T Cell Responses and the Impact on HIV Immunity.”
