AHA Publishes Statement for Kidney Dysfunction in HF

Marie Bakitas, DNSc, RN, (Professor, GGPC), co-authored the American Heart Association's Scientific Statement on the Evaluation and Management of Kidney Dysfunction in Advanced Heart Failure. The statement emphasizes the role of palliative care and decision-making for patients with both advanced heart failure and kidney disease.

Verma Addresses Cardio-myopathy in Type 2 Diabetes

Suresh Verma, Ph.D., (Assoc. Professor, CVD) received the Diabetic Research Center Pilot and Feasibility Award to develop a technique for targeted delivery of engineered exosomes to treat diabetic cardiomyopathy in type 2 diabetes, aiming to reduce inflammation and fibrosis in diabetic hearts.

Lohr Designated AHA Fellow

Nicole Lohr, M.D., Ph.D., (Professor and Director, CVD) was named a Fellow of the American Heart Association by the Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Council in recognition of her excellence, innovation, and sustained contributions in scholarship, practice, education, and volunteer service.

Abdulhadi Discusses Bone Disorders on UAB MedCast

Basma Abdulhadi, M.D., (Asst. Professor, EDM) joined UAB MedCast to discuss the impact of bone disorders in women and the importance of screening to prevent bone density loss. She also detailed interventions used to keep patients safe and mobile.

Assistant Professor Aditi Saha, M.D., has joined the UAB Division of Hematology and Oncology in the Lymphoma Section. She specializes in lymphomatous malignancies and rare histiocytic disorders, with research focused on immunotherapy for aggressive B-cell lymphoma, including CAR T-cell therapy, and developing more tolerable treatment options for rare histiocytic disorders.
