More Good News for October 14, 2022

As part of our 2022 Faculty Honors series, the Department celebrates those appointed to endowed positions made possible by the generosity of our donors, as well as those who have been recognized as emeritus faculty for their service.

General Internal Medicine Drs. Starr Steinhilber (Associate Professor) and Karla Williams (Assistant Professor) will join Dr. Jason Morris as Associate Program Directors of the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Mark Dransfield, M.D., (Professor and Director, Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care) and colleagues report that inhaled dual bronchodilator therapy did not decrease respiratory symptoms in tabacco-exposed persons with preserved lung function as assessed by spirometry.

Takamitsu Saigusa, M.D., (Associate Professor, Nephrology) received an R01 grant to study the role of dietary protein on the rate of cyst growth, immune response, and metabolic profile in the kidney. Congrats, Dr. Saigusa!

James Callaway, M.D., (Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology and Hepatology) joins UAB MedCast to provide insight on the increasing prevalence of eosinophilic esophagitis in the United States, its causes and treatment options.
