The Division of Infectious Diseases celebrates a paper published documenting antibiotic stewardship efforts here at UAB. The publication by first-author Rachael Lee, MD, with senior author Pete Pappas, MD, has been named one of the top articles in 2019 on stewardship in a major journal. Hats off on this documentation of the effectiveness of a fluoroquinolone restriction program to halt declines in FQ susceptibility rates for 3 gram-negative organisms!
Clinical Infectious Diseases recently published the thesis research of Keonte Graves, a biology PhD student and researcher at the Infectious Diseases division. His mentor is Christina Muzny, MD. Kudos on this exciting step in your research career!
Gabrielle Rocque, MD (Assistant Professor, Hematology and Oncology) was recently highlighted in Birmingham Medical News for her work investigating the correlation between distance to care and cancer outcomes. As a former chief resident at Washington University, Alonso Heudebert, MD (Assistant Professor, General Internal Medicine) was invited to participate in editing the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics. Specifically, he coordinated chapters on the treatment of infectious diseases, antimicrobials, HIV and AIDs, Endocrine, and Toxicology as well the Appendix on infection control. Three cheers for this important contribution to the literature of medicine!
