MedWest_570x250In August 2024, UAB Health System opened UAB Medical West to expand specialty care to patients in West Jefferson County and surrounding areas. Earlier this month, UAB announced that the Specialty Clinics at UAB Medical West are now accepting adult patients of all ages in cardiology, endocrinology, pulmonary, and rheumatology. We are proud of all the clinical providers and staff who are extending UAB medical expertise to Bessemer and beyond.

Zhao Expands Understanding of Crohn’s Disease

Assistant Professor in GI/Hep Qing Zhao, Ph.D., and colleagues found that both patients with Crohn's disease and healthy infants show a strong antibody response to a common region on a group of bacteria that typically live harmlessly in our bodies, suggesting that failure to establish a balanced relationship with these bacteria early in life may increase the risk of developing Crohn's disease.
