On Wednesday, nearly 200 employees gathered in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium to celebrate 2024 DOM Recognition Day. The ceremony was kicked off by Interim Chair Dr. Mark Dransfield, who recognized individuals for their significant milestones achieved over the past year. Departmental leaders and division directors honored outstanding physicians, APPs, preceptors, teachers, investigators, and staff for their exceptional contributions.

DOM Vice Chair for Research Operations & Development

Cindy Joiner, Ph.D., MPH, RN, associate professor and Executive Director of DOM's Clinical Research Enterprise, has been named Vice Chair for Research Operations and Development, effective Oct. 1. She will work with leadership to oversee research operations and develop programs for faculty and staff. Congrats, Dr. Joiner!

Gutiérrez to Step Down as Director of Nephrology

Orlando Gutiérrez, MD, MMSc, will step down as Director of the Division of Nephrology to focus on the senior leadership roles he took on in April. He will continue to lead the division until the department identifies his successor.

Burski Joins MedEd Committee

Chad Burski, M.D., associate professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, has been appointed to the Heersink Medical Education Committee to help oversee and review activities related to the undergraduate medical education curriculum.

McMaster Joins GIMPOP

Please join us in welcoming Kelly McMaster, M.D., MBA, assistant professor and the new assistant program director for the Internal Medicine Residency program. McMaster will serve patients at the GIM Clinic at the Whitaker Clinic and at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. We are excited to have you, Dr. McMaster.
