More Good News for July 26, 2017
When an elderly patient with pneumonia and a suspicious mass in his lungs was admitted on the Tinsley Service, Jacob Elrod, MD (PGY-1) took extra pains to understand his social situation as well as his physical condition. Thankfully, he discovered something his patient had failed to report—a recent hospital admission at UAB under a different medical record number where he’d already received a cancer diagnosis! His curiosity and persistence spared the patient repeated medical procedures, and we’re proud to have Dr. Elrod in our IM Residency Program.
Jeremie Lever (MD/PhD student, Nephrology Research and Training Center) has been awarded a four-year F31 award from the NIDDK. His research focuses on the role of kidney macrophages in healing after acute kidney injury under the mentorship of Drs. Jennifer Larson-Casey, PhD (Instructor, Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care) has received both a Parker B. Francis Fellowship Award and an American Lung Association biomedical research grant for her research related to cigarette smoking. She is mentored by pulmonary professor Brent Carter, MD.
