Cherrington Reports on Differences in Diabetes Drugs

The Glycemia Reduction Approaches in Diabetes study at UAB, conducted by Andrea Cherrington, M.D., (Interim Director, Prev Med) and colleagues report additional findings among four commonly prescribed medicines for Type 2 diabetes that should help patients and providers choose the best medication for their individual needs.

Blackburn Serves as Asst. Director of Residency Program

RJ Blackburn, M.D., (Assistant Professor, GIM) was selected to serve as an assistant program director for the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program. He will work alongside Director, Ryan Kraemer, M.D., to support the mission of the program.

Jones Named STAHR Scholar

Raymond Jones, Ph.D., (Assistant Professor, GGPC) was named a Sustained Training in HIV and Aging Research Scholar by the University of California, San Diego, for his efforts to increase knowledge concerning the development, implementation, and dissemination of HIV and aging mental health research.

Buford Appointed Inaugural Director of New GGPC Section

Tom Buford, Ph.D., (Professor, GGPC) will serve as the inaugural director of the newly created Section of Translational Gerontology which will focus on research related to the prevention of age-related declines in physical and cognitive functions.

IAE Honors Nanda as Chief Guest at Annual Meeting

Navin Nanda, M.D., (Distinguished Professor, CVD) was honored as the Chief Guest at the Indian Academy of Echocardiography’s annual meeting, where he was recognized for his contributions in the development of echocardiography.
