How Does Mucin Sialylation Affect Lung Mucus Transport?
Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine faculty Jarrod Barnes, Ph.D., and Steve Rowe, M.D., publish in Scientific Reports that reduced sialylation of the mucin protein MUC5B impairs mucus transport in the lungs. Their findings could lead to new interventions for muco-obstructive diseases, like cystic fibrosis.
