The UAB Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology is expanding community access to rheumatologic care at the Hoover Specialty Clinic starting this month. Two former UAB fellows, Adam Taylor, M.D., and Raj Vachhani, M.D., have joined the faculty and are working at the Clinic to provide expert diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory arthritis and numerous other autoimmune diseases. Way to grow, team!

Alpha Young, a biotech business led by Christian Faul, Ph.D., (Associate Professor, Nephrology) will seek to generate a mimetic protein based on soluble Klotho in hopes of finding new treatment options for patients with chronic kidney disease, thanks to a SBIR 1+2 fast track grant.

Preventive Medicine Professors Mona Fouad, M.D., MPH, and Gareth Dutton, Ph.D., edited a supplement of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine examining the complex factors contributing to obesity disparities.

Ram Kannappan, DOS, (Scientist, Cardiovascular Disease) has received an American Heart Association Transformational Project Award to study the production of stem cell populations in regenerating heart functions following myocardial infarction.

We are excited to welcome Assistant Professor, Iram Moledina, M.D., to the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Her research interests include osteoporosis, diabetes, and benign thyroid disease management.
