Photo credit: Mike Broadway Photography.Ayman Saad, MD (Associate Professor, Hematology and Oncology) and his team at UAB performed a bone marrow harvest that has produced a beautiful and an unexpected friendship. Hayden Hatfield Ryals signed up to be a marrow donor and ended up not only being a perfect match, but also saving the life of Skye Savren-McCormick, who was suffering from junvenile myelomonocytic leukemia at the time. Two years later, the pair is still close, and Skye was the flower girl in Hayden’s wedding. Great job to Dr. Saad and his team!
More Good News for August 29, 2018
Anand Iyer, MD (Assistant Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care) will receive UAB’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award at the 2018 Alumni Leadership and Recognition Awards ceremony in September. Dr. Iyer obtained his medical degree from UAB in 2011 and remained at UAB for his residency and fellowship in pulmonary medicine. Now junior faculty here at UAB, Dr. Iyer has continued his research in COPD focusing on patient-centered outcomes and mixed-methods research. We love Dr. Iyer!
Ryan Kraemer, MD (Associate Professor, General Internal Medicine) first-authored the article“Moving Career Development Upstream: Evaluation of a Course for Internal Medicine Trainees Contemplating Career Pathways in Academic Medicine” in the Southern Medical Journal.
Navin Nanda, MD, DSc (Hon) (Distinguished Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Echocardiography during their annual meeting in Nashville.
