Jeana Russell was a grateful survivor of Hodgkin’s lymphoma 32 years ago, and has counted on UAB to help her manage a subsequent series of health complications, including a triple-bypass, a pacemaker, and double mastectomy. At each step of the way, she turned to UAB, and now sees Carrie Lenneman, M.D., (Associate Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) who provides specialized cardio-oncology care, helping her stay active and healthy despite the toxic cardiopulmonary effects of her life-saving radiation therapy.

Surya Bhatt, M.D., (Associate Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care) study in the Journal of Radiology finds that lung airways are smaller in women which could lead to a higher risk for lung disease.

Starr Steinhilber, M.D., (Assistant Professor, GIM) received the 2022 Distinguished Young Alumni Award from the UAB Medical Alumni Association which recognizes an individual's outstanding contributions to healthcare.

PGY-1 Vibhu Parcha, M.D., is a finalist for the 2022 American Heart Association Genomic and Precision Medicine Council Early Career Award for his research which compares genetic variants, risk scores and hypertension to an one's personal risk for fatal cardiovascular events.
