Associate Professor in the UAB Division of General Internal Medicine Winter Williams, M.D., has been recognized as a 2024 recipient of the UAB President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Williams has continuously demonstrated teaching excellence in medical education. Since joining our faculty, he has received over 20 awards including the Dean's Excellence Award in Teaching, the Caduceus Award for Excellence in Clinical Education, and a student-voted Argus Award his course "Preparing for Residency."

He has further demonstrated his passion for education through the development and implementation of innovative curriculum for both medical students and residents. Additionally, Williams has written numerous publications emphasizing the importance of identifying, supporting, and assisting students and trainees dealing with challenges during their medical education.

CFAR Secures $9M Grant Renewal from NIH

The UAB Center for AIDS Research, directed by Renee Heffron, Ph.D., MPH, (Professor, ID) received a $9 million renewal grant from the NIH to continue advancing health equity and fostering research that benefits individuals impacted by the HIV epidemic.

CFF Renews Research Development Program Funding

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has renewed and increased its funding for the Research Development Program in the Gregory Fleming James CF Research Center. Brian Davis, Ph.D., will serve as PI and director; Susan Birket, Ph.D., will co-direct the program.

Chaudhary Joins PACCM Faculty

Please join us in welcoming Instructor Muhammad Faizyab Ali Chaudhary, Ph.D., MS, to the UAB Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. His research interest is deep generative imaging techniques and lung disease, particularly in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
