As a volunteer-run clinic, Equal Access Birmingham relies on its student and medical professional volunteers. See the information listed below to see how you can get involved today!
How to Volunteer
UAB Student Volunteers
At this time, we only have current medical students at UAB Heersink School of Medicine and a selected cohort of UAB undergraduate students volunteering at EAB. We select the cohort of undergraduate volunteers through an application process at the middle of the spring semester. Applications for the next term will be open in March 2025. Volunteer training information and signups for medical students will be emailed at the start of the fall and spring semesters.
UAB Physician Volunteers
To volunteer as an attending or resident physician at one of our medical clinics, you must be a part of the UAB Health System. Please reach out to equalaccess@uab.edu if you are interested in volunteering with us.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Medical H&Per (Medical Student) — Responsible for triaging the patient prior to the physician. During the initial visit, the medical student will take a thorough history and physical examination and present the information to the physician. Together, the medical student and physician will discuss findings, make an assessment, and plan to provide the patient with the highest quality of care.
- Dispensary Assistant and Check-In Assistant (Undergraduate Student) — Assist medical student volunteers with checking patients in, completing intake forms, filling prescriptions, and delivering medications to patients. These roles are filled by previously selected pre-med undergraduate students at UAB.
