Department Vision

The Department of Emergency Medicine strives to be the premier provider of patient centered research, innovative care and training in emergency medicine in the state of Alabama and beyond, creating value for the Heersink School of Medicine, UAB, our alumni, and our community that invests in us.

We will enact this vision through creating a safe environment for our patients and their families, showing compassion and respect for our patients, developing world-class physicians, and fostering shared stewardship of our resources.

Department Mission

To provide high quality emergency care to the people of the State of Alabama and the Southeastern United States, with compassion and respect for each patient:  to educate physicians in the discipline of emergency medicine, so that they may provide excellence in emergency care to those patients; and to advance the science of emergency medicine through research, for the ultimate benefit of the health and well-being of all emergency patients throughout our society.
