WISE Health aims to create an environment where people of all weights can access health and wellness

The Weight Inclusive and Adaptive Strategies to Enhance Cardiometabolic Health in Black Adults (WISE Health) study compares weight-focused and weight-neutral biobehavioral interventions for improving cardiometabolic health.

This study, led by Drew Sayer, Ph.D., evaluates different health coaching methods and their effectiveness in improving health among those who are overweight or have obesity and are dealing with cardiovascular and/or metabolic diseases.
After being randomly assigned to a study group, participants will receive seven weeks of either weight-focused (i.e., behavioral weight loss) or weight-neutral (not emphasizing weight loss) health coaching. Sub-optimal responders to those initial strategies will be re-randomized into either an intensified lifestyle intervention or a physician-led program. Participant health is measured at the beginning of the study as well as after weeks 8 and 26.

This is part of a six-month project to determine the feasibility of a larger future trial.
