The division partners with the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center to offer two unique opportunities for training in quality improvement and patient safety.
VA Quality Scholars Fellowship
This program has an inter-professional emphasis with physicians, doctoral-trained nurses, and pharmacists participating. Fellows use their two years to focus on healthcare improvement research and scholarship, operations leadership, and teaching quality and safety. Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) and a CV to Tracey Dick, PhD, RN, CNE, COI, CPPS (nurse applicants), Carlos Estrada, M.D., MS (physician applicants), or Jarrett Wright, PharmD, MSHI (pharmacy applicants) no later than December 1. VA Chief Medical Resident in Quality and Safety
One-year position (PGY4, post-IM or Med-Peds Training). Integration of these concepts into the fabric of residency training programs as well as developing expertise in milestones development for System Based Practice and Problem Based Learning and Improvement. Mentorship and protected time are provided for teaching, research, and scholarship. Funding to attend national meetings is provided.
