All our medical students complete their pre-clinical coursework on our Birmingham campus before beginning their clinical coursework at one of our four clinical campuses.
Applicants are able to rank their campus preferences for the Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery campuses as part of the admissions process. Our Tuscaloosa Campus is the exclusive home of the Primary Care Track and is not eligible for ranking in campus preference.
Students admitted to one of the below programs or tracks will be automatically assigned to a regional campus and will not submit a campus preference ranking. These include:
- Medical Scientist Training Program (Birmingham)
- Rural Medicine Program (Huntsville)
- Rural Medical Scholars Program (Tuscaloosa)
- Primary Care Track (Tuscaloosa)
Campus Visits
We will host Campus Visit Days on each campus for applicants to explore our four clinical campuses before submitting their campus preferences. Applicants who are already admitted, waiting to hear back after interviewing, or scheduled to interview are invited. Campus Visit Days allow applicants to meet leaders and students on the campuses, virtually tour facilities, and ask questions to help make a decision about campus preference.Be on the lookout for more information via email.
Campus Preference Submission & Deadlines
Applicants receive an email with instructions for submitting campus preferences. Campus preferences must be submitted by March 1. Campus assignments are communicated in early April.
Campus Change Policy
Campus assignments are final and binding. In their second year, students may request to change their clinical campus assignment “when the original assignment will require substantial personal or educational hardship.” See our full Campus Change Policy.
