Our Mission

Our mission is clear: to ensure the Heersink School of Medicine's enduring success and leadership in the field of medicine. We accomplish this by identifying exceptional candidates from within our institution as well as from the broader global community. We seek out individuals who possess the expertise, vision, and commitment necessary to lead our school into the future. We actively seek out leaders who can bring unique perspectives and experiences to the UAB community.

Our Responsibilities

Our team is a multifaceted unit that fulfills several critical responsibilities:

  1. Talent Scouting: Our dedicated team scours the academic and medical landscape to identify outstanding individuals who can fill key leadership positions within the school. These positions range from deans and department chairs to executive administrators and deputy directors.
  2. Facilitating Campus Engagement: Once potential candidates are identified, we take the lead in bringing them to our campus. We organize comprehensive interview processes and immersive campus tours to acquaint them with our institution's culture, values, and aspirations.
  3. Onboarding Support: Should a candidate accept an offer extended by UAB, our team continues to assist by providing comprehensive onboarding support. We ensure that new leaders have a smooth transition into their roles, setting them up for success from day one.
  4. Internal Departmental Reviews: Beyond recruitment, we also play a vital role in the periodic review of our academic departments. Approximately every six years, we engage in departmental reviews, helping to assess performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and align departmental goals with the broader strategic vision of the Heersink School of Medicine.
