Avoid the following:
Buffers that contain strong nucleophilic groups (e.g., Tris, sodium azide). Presence of these components must be avoided for amine coupling, as they will compete with the ligand reactant for activated esters on the sensor chip.
Buffers that contain reducing agents. Reducing agents will interfere with thiol coupling.
