Cardio-Renal Physiology and Medicine (CRPM) was founded in 2014 within the Department of Medicine and Division of Nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It confers an outstanding research environment with several remarkable strengths, including using a wide variety of state-of-the-art techniques encompassing molecular, genetic, cellular, organ/tissue, and whole animal models.
The mission of CRPM is to provide mentorship to faculty and Ph.D. and M.D. trainees, investigational resources for members of the Department of Medicine and other clinical departments, a resource for collaborative interactions within the University, and input into strategic growth of the university’s research programs. In addition to research, the CRPM is home to programs targeted at educational goals: this includes a translational research seminar program that features nationally and internationally recognized speakers, a research forum where on-campus projects are presented and discussed in an open forum, and a biweekly basic science journal club.
