Dr. HarmonThis month, our department welcomed Assistant Professor Daniel K. Harmon, M.D., FAANS.

Harmon completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2003. He then completed neurosurgery residency at UAB in 2010. During residency, he worked with UAB Department of Neurosurgery Chair, James Markert, M.D., MPH, in a Neuro-oncology Fellowship.

After residency, Dr. Harmon worked in private practice where he built on his experience in general neurosurgery, particularly in the field of minimally-invasive spine surgery, complex spine disorders, Neuro ICU care and traumatic neurologic injuries.

During his practice at Princeton Medical Center, Harmon helped develop a stroke service and open Princeton’s first dedicated Neuro ICU.  At UAB, Harmon will help develop an outpatient spine surgery program, and hopes to continue a personal interest in the presentation and treatment of congenital disorders in adults, including hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and tethered spinal cord.

Markert looks forward to working with Harmon once again.

“The department is delighted to welcome Dr. Harmon into our ranks of world-renowned faculty, staff, researchers and clinicians,” said Markert. “Dr. Harmon is a talented and compassionate surgeon, and will undoubtedly develop a high-volume, patient-centric neurosurgical practice. We look forward to all that Dr. Harmon will achieve with us here at UAB.”
