The UAB Department of Neurosurgery welcomes Lauryn Sheffield (left) and Renaldo “Rey” Riggins (right).
 
Sheffield joins the department as an administrative office specialist IV after working at UAB for nearly ten years. Sheffield has worked in both the neurosurgery Call Center and clinic, as well as in the Division of Trauma & Acute Care. “I am excited to be coming back to neurosurgery,” said Sheffield.

Riggins returns to his home state to join the department as a lab manager. Riggins has worked as an associate lab operations manager at LabCentral in Cambridge, MA, and an aerobiologist at the University of Florida. “This is a surreal moment for me due to my story coming full circle as I left Alabama to join the U.S. Army at 18 years old and 20-plus years later, I am returning home,” said Riggins. 

In his free time, Riggins enjoys coaching football and basketball for high school and youth sports leagues.
