UAB Department of Neurosurgery Director of Clinical Research Administration Donna Dixon, MBA, CCRP, and Center for Clinical and Translational Science Administrative Project Specialist Jayme Hester have been elected as the two Staff Council representatives for the School of Medicine.
Specified UAB employees were encouraged to nominate a staff member from May 1-15 who well-represented UAB’s values. Voting then opened June 1-7, and election results were then announced mid-June. New Staff Council representatives will serve a two-year term that begins in August 2020 and ends in July 2022.
“Serving as a Staff Council Representative has been such a great way to be involved with the university at a different level,” said Council Chair Jennifer Breland, Ph.D. “By coming together to advance the UAB mission and support the shared values of the institution, the Staff Council has been able to serve as an advocate for UAB staff across campus and help make UAB an even better place to work every day.”
Dixon is looking forward to serving her fellow staff colleagues in this role.
“After being elected to serve on Staff Council during its inaugural year as a representative of another school, I had to prematurely resign from the position when I transferred to SOM Department of Neurosurgery,” said Dixon. “At that time, Staff Council was beginning to do some really exciting things. I am glad I can continue to serve my fellow staff colleagues on this council and eager to now represent School of Medicine.”
Formed in 2016, the Staff Council is an engaged campus organization that represents 22 organizational units and is dedicated to promoting an exchange of ideas among its members, the campus community and the UAB administration. The staff council was formed to be a voice to those who comprise a majority of UAB’s employees by providing advice and recommendations to university administration and leaders.
