Eva Gilliam, administrative assistant in the Department of Neurosurgery, has been awarded the 2024 UAB Medicine Excellence Award.
Gilliam, who works alongside leaders in the Neurosurgery Chair’s Office, is regarded by her peers as a "Jill of all trades," always eager to take on new challenges and offer assistance to her co-workers.
Gilliam has more than 25 years of experience working at UAB, and, according to her supervisor, Operations Manager Kirsten Yelvington, “creates a positive and supportive environment for everyone she encounters, fostering a culture of compassion.”
Consideration for this award, which is the highest honor available for staff, is based upon skill set, knowledge, performance, leadership, teamwork and demonstration of UAB’s core values.
“I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work in the Department of Neurosurgery,” said Gilliam. “The support and guidance from my supervisor, Kirsten Yelvington, and my boss, Donna Bailer, along with the solidarity of our team, make each day rewarding. It's truly humbling to receive recognition from both my department and the School of Medicine.”
This award was created to further UAB Medicine’s rich history of recognizing excellence among its employees.
According to Lou Baverso, MBA, chief operating officer of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System, Gilliam is joining an “elite group of healthcare professionals at UAB who have been recognized for their outstanding care, service and exemplary core values.”
To recognize their contributions to UAB Medicine, a celebratory luncheon will be held for award recipients on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
