UAB Department of Neurosurgery Patient Service Coordinator Sharon Harris and Licensed Practical Nurse Calandra Reed were recognized by UAB Medicine on the list of 2020 “Hero Awards” for their commitment to excellent patient care.
UAB Medicine’s Patient Experience Week 2020 took place April 27 through May 1. As part of the annual celebration, the UAB Medicine Office of Patient Experience and Engagement (OPXE) recognized employees who help provide exceptional care for patients and their families.
According to the OPXE, the staff members recognized for the “Hero Awards” consistently go above and beyond by embodying UAB’s Core Values, showing compassion and keeping patients as their top priority. The OPXE offered their congratulations to all 21 UAB staff named and shared a snippet from their nomination information.
UAB Department of Neurosurgery Clinical Services Manager Shana Osman nominated both Harris and Reed. About Harris, Osman wrote, “Sharon consistently goes above and beyond for patients and can be heard during every single visit using AIDET and ending her conversations with, ‘Anything else I can help you with?’ Patients have written letters on how helpful she was. Basically, anyone that comes to Neuro One remembers Sharon and her great interactions.”
When nominating Reed, Osman wrote, “Calandra is consistently the clinical staff member that most all providers go to for assistance. She is always welcoming and polite to the patients and providers. She consistently uses AIDET with all her patients, she has developed long-lasting relationships with many of her patients, and they remember and know her. She is a superstar.”
Join the department in congratulating both Harris and Reed on this momentous accomplishment.
