UAB Department of Neurosurgery residents Elizabeth Kuhn, M.D., and Jacob Lepard, M.D., were recently named the recipients of two research awards for abstracts they submitted for presentation at the 2019 American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting.

Out of 1,700 submissions, Kuhn’s abstract and Lepard’s abstract were selected for presentation at the meeting as winners of the Hydrocephalus Association Award and the Kenneth Shulman Award, respectively. Kuhn and Lepard were chosen as recipients for these awards by the AANS/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery “for recognition of distinguished contributions to their field of study.”

Kuhn won the Hydrocephalus Association Award for best paper on the topic of hydrocephalus for her research project, “Cross Sectional Evaluation of Transition Readiness in the Interdisciplinary Spina Bifida Clinic,” while Lepard won the Kenneth Shulman Award for best overall paper for his project, “Developing a de novo Stereotactic Electroencephalography (SEEG) Program: A Multi-Institutional Pediatric Experience.” Kuhn and Lepard will present their abstracts, along with the other 27 award winners, at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, California, April 13-17.
