UAB Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Elizabeth Liptrap, M.D., was recently named chair of the UAB Faculty Development Committee (FDC). 
 
The FDC, which is part of the Faculty Senate, is responsible for reviewing matters and recommending policy pertaining to faculty career enhancement, such as teaching, service, scholarship and mentoring/leadership.
 
The FDC also works with the Faculty Development Grant Program director and the Office of the Provost to manage the Faculty Development Grant Program.
 
Members of the Faculty Senate must be nominated by a faculty member and voted on before they can become a representative of their academic unit. 
 
The Faculty Senate represents UAB’s faculty in matters of shared governance. Through participation in various councils and committees, they convey the faculty’s views and concerns in matters that affect the University.
