University of Alabama at Birmingham’s James Markert, M.D., MPH, James Garber Galbraith Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery and Department of Neurosurgery professor, recently served as the 2022 Michael S. Voynick lecturer at Yale University. 
 
Markert visited his alma mater on Nov. 11, 2022, where he shared his cutting-edge research on the use of viruses as oncolytic and gene therapy vectors for the treatment of malignant brain tumors.  
 
Each year since 1997, the Yale Department of Neurosurgery and Section of Neurosurgical Oncology has hosted a renowned scientist in the field of neuro-oncology.
 
The annual lecture is held to honor the legacy of the late Michael Voynick, who passed away after a brave fight with a malignant brain tumor.
