Children's of AlabamaU.S. News & World Report’s (USNWR) 2021 Top Pediatric Hospital Ranking reported Children’s of Alabama Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery specialty 33 in the nation.

Overall, Children’s of Alabama is nationally ranked in nine different pediatric specialties, earning it the top spot for hospitals in the state of Alabama for children, and tied for third in the southeast region.

Several UAB Department of Neurosurgery faculty, as well as staff, trainees, nurses, and more, contribute to this remarkable care delivered to neurosurgical patients at Children’s of Alabama and its high national ranking.

Neurosurgeons within the department who support pediatric services include: Director of the UAB Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery Jeffrey Blount, M.D., MPH; Director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship Program James Johnston Jr., M.D.; Associate Professor Brandon Rocque, M.D.; and Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program Curtis Rozzelle, M.D.

Blount is proud of the work of the team of faculty who support the pediatric neurosurgery partnership between the UAB Department of Neurosurgery and Children’s of Alabama.

“The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery is very proud of the USNWR ranking for Children’s of Alabama,” said Blount. “I know how hard not only our physicians, but also our staff and trainees, work to support our pediatric partners at Children’s of Alabama as a tertiary care referral center for the State of Alabama and much of the southeast.”

Johnston is pleased to see Children’s of Alabama so well-represented in the neurology/neurosurgery rankings.

“Children’s of Alabama has proven time and time again that it is a world-class care center for pediatric patients, not only in the state of Alabama, but also across the nation,” said Johnston. “Our division aims to provide the best care for our pediatric neurosurgery patients, and our partnership with Children’s of Alabama allows us to live up to this mission.”
