Anastasia Smith, MPH, Clinical Research Manager and UAB School of Public Health doctoral student, was recently accepted into the University of Alabama at Birmingham Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society.
Omicron Delta Kappa recognizes its members’ superior leadership and exemplary character and encourages collaboration across the Society’s five pillars of leadership: academics and research, service to campus and community, creative and performing arts, communications and athletics.
Omicron Delta Kappa is a member of the Honor Society Caucus, a consortium of the most prestigious honor societies in the country.
When the Society was first established in 1914, only men were admitted as members. Members of the University of Alabama Circle began formally advocating for the admittance of women into the Society at the 1970 and 1972 Biennial National Conventions. The “Alabama Amendment” to the Society’s National Constitution was approved during the 1974 convention and the first female members were recognized.
