Jovanna Tracz, M.D., a first-year neurosurgery resident in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery, has been elected to the Women in Neurosurgery (WINS)Resident Executive Committee.
Tracz will serve as the events chair, joining 11 other female neurosurgery residents from across the United States.
WINS, a section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), aims to promote the professional development and career advancement of women in neurosurgery. The organization provides a platform for members to engage in mentorship, advocacy and educational opportunities within the field.
Tracz expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I am so excited to serve on the WINS Resident Executive Committee this year alongside my inspirational colleagues.”
In the Department of Neurosurgery Residency Program, resident involvement in neurosurgical organizations like WINS is encouraged during dtraining. Participation in such organizations offers residents additional opportunities to network, gain leadership experience and stay updated on advancements in neurosurgery. This involvement can also help residents build a supportive and diverse community and advocate for their professional growth.
The WINS Resident Executive Committee's composition of 12 members ensures a diverse representation from various regions and programs. This diversity is instrumental in addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the field of neurosurgery.
As events chair, Tracz will be responsible for ensuring that WINS events provide valuable resources and opportunities for female neurosurgery residents.
