The University of Alabama at Birmingham was recently named September 2023 Site of the Month by A Study of the Embolization of the Middle Meningeal Artery With ONYX™ Liquid Embolic System in the Treatment of Subacute and Chronic Subdural Hematoma (EMBOLISE).
 
Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Jesse Jones, M.D., and Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator Rhonda Whidden were both recognized by EMBOLISE. Jones serves as the trial’s principal investigator and Whidden as the site coordinator. 
 
The study was designed to evaluate embolization of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) using the Onyx™ Liquid Embolic System (LES) as an adjunct to conventional treatment, like surgery or observation, for symptomatic subacute or chronic subdural hematoma.
