David M. Pollock, Ph.D., professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology, was recently elected the 87th president of the American Physiological Society, a non-profit organization promoting scientific research and education in the physiological sciences.
Founded in 1887, APS membership includes more than 10,500 scientists studying how the human body works under normal conditions.
Pollock is director of the Cardio-Renal Research section, a translational research program supported jointly by the Division of Cardiovascular Disease and Division of Nephrology. He and his wife, Jennifer Pollock, Ph.D., were recruited to UAB in 2014 to create and lead the cardio-renal program. Pollock has authored 150 peer-reviewed papers along with nearly 40 invited reviews and commentaries and 11 book chapters.
Pollock has been active in a wide range of national and international organizations, and has held several committee positions for the APS.
