The Rheumatology Research Foundation’s Journey to Cure campaign has funded eight rheumatology opportunities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, totaling $1,658,000 over the past five years.
“This is the largest fundraising campaign put on by the Rheumatology Research Foundation,” said S. Louis Bridges Jr., M.D., Ph.D., Anna Louis Waters Endowed Chair in the UAB Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology. “We appreciate its investment in UAB to further the research in treating rheumatology and recruit future physicians to train and excel in the rheumatology field.”
The RRF awards help increase knowledge of rheumatology among medical students and residents in the Southeast and encourage future doctors to pursue a career in the field. UAB awardees were among more than 900 rheumatology and psychology professionals nationwide who received funding from the Rheumatology Research Foundation’s Journey to Cure campaign.
The campaign exceeded its goal to raise $60 million to support the Foundation’s mission to improve the health of people with rheumatic diseases, raising $61,430,466 over five years. Dollars raised during the campaign are directly invested into the Foundation’s mission objectives to recruit and train future rheumatologists and health professionals, foster innovative research ideas in rheumatology, and accelerate advancements in treatments and cures for all rheumatic diseases.
