At UAB, investing in professional growth and development is critical to our mission and identity. Teams like the Leadership Development Office (LDO) work hard to ensure faculty and staff are presented opportunities to enhance and expand skill sets across campus and the clinical environment.
The UAB Medicine Institute for Leadership is a UAB cohort-based program for high potential, mid-level leaders. Candidates are nominated by senior-level leaders, past successes, and their potential for growth. Once accepted, they are asked to undergo a rigorous assessment period to obtain feedback from their co-workers, direct reports, and supervisor.
The goal of the program is to enhance existing personal, leadership, and management competencies while leveraging leadership strategy and focusing on trends. Guest speakers from executive-level leadership positions share their expertise with each cohort. Cohorts also practice team-building strategies and, together, explore topics of proficiency, coaching, mentoring, and more.
“I am proud of LDO’s dedication to strengthen our leaders while promoting unity and teamwork. Leadership development programs at UAB contribute to the core of our identity by promoting growth for individuals across our enterprise,” said Anupam Agarwal, M.D., interim senior vice president for Medicine and dean.
